Automated Detection and Moderation of Toxic Community Content

Safe online spaces require instant moderation that flags inappropriate content without disrupting user interactions or exposing server keys.

The Challenge

When users post inappropriate, offensive, or toxic comments and posts, it degrades the community environment and violates safety guidelines. Manually reviewing every single post before it goes live is slow and expensive. Additionally, running moderation checks on the mobile device can drain the battery, while direct API integration risks exposing credentials.

Solution & Architecture

Built an automated AI moderation filter using cloud functions. When a user taps the button to submit a post or comment, the text and images are sent to a secure cloud function that uses an AI model to analyze the content in real-time. The AI calculates a safety score. If the score is below the threshold, the post is blocked, and the user is shown a warning explaining that their content violates guidelines.
