Plank – Full Body Workout is a mobile fitness application designed to help users build a stronger core and improve overall fitness through structured plank-based workout routines. The app provides professionally designed workout programs suitable for beginners, intermediate users, and advanced fitness enthusiasts . The application focuses on plank exercises and full-body training , combining strength training, cardio, and flexibility exercises to deliver an effective workout experience without requiring any gym equipment. Users can follow a structured 30-day workout program that gradually increases in difficulty to help build endurance, strengthen muscles, and improve body posture. Each exercise is supported by animated demonstrations and clear instructions , ensuring users perform workouts correctly and safely. In addition to guided workout plans, the app offers Quick Workouts and Custom Workout Builder , allowing users to create routines based on their available time and fitness goals. The app also helps users stay motivated by providing fitness tracking features , allowing them to monitor workout duration, calories burned, and weight progress. With its simple and intuitive design, Plank – Full Body Workout enables users to stay active and achieve their fitness goals directly from home.

Challenges & solutions

The technical problems our team solved to ship a reliable, unified mobile experience.

Handling platform-specific permission states, resolving permission errors gracefully on different devices, and writing workout records securely without blocking the primary UI.

Developed a platform-agnostic synchronization bridge using a unified health utility. It dynamically requests permissions based on the active operating system (HealthKit on iOS and Google Fit on Android) and writes workout data using specific workout metrics (energy burned, start/end timestamps). Implemented a custom dialog mechanism that prompts users to manually revoke access in system settings when disabling syncing on iOS (due to HealthKit limitations), while utilizing automated permission revocation routines on Android to keep the system states synchronized.

Coordinating real-time text-to-speech engines with workout timers, managing speech rates, handling audio focus/ducking, and preventing device standby modes during long sessions.

Implemented a vocal engine synchronized with a single-ticker controller. Used custom text-to-speech settings (adjusting pitch, speech rate, and language) to speak titles, rest notices, and countdown warnings. Integrated screen wake-lock utilities to prevent the operating system from entering sleep mode or dimming the screen during workout cycles, while providing a toggle to gracefully mute/resume vocal coaching without resetting the underlying exercise timer.

Cloud database queries restrict array filter bounds (such as limits on whereIn array operations). Generating randomized workout lists of arbitrary sizes, fetching documents efficiently, and preventing UI freezes during network loads.

Engineered a dynamic workout generator that calculates custom exercise parameters (count, hold time, rest duration) based on the user's targeted duration. Developed a chunking algorithm that splits random list structures into smaller arrays of 10 items. Fired parallel batch queries to fetch the required exercise metadata asynchronously, aggregating the individual query results in the state management layer before initiating the countdown timer, thus bypassing database array query limits.

Consolidating diverse App Store and Google Play billing SDKs under a single payment state machine, and preventing double-billing or interstitial ad displays for active subscribers.

Built a billing coordinator that configures platform-specific API keys at runtime (using third-party SDKs for billing abstraction and mobile advertising SDKs for monetization). Implemented interceptors that verify the active subscription status before loading or displaying interstitial ads. If the user's profile is marked as free, the system displays interstitial ads during workout completion transitions; if marked as premium, the ad loading cycles are completely bypassed, optimizing bandwidth usage and providing a seamless premium user experience.
